Here are just a few tips from me to you that may help you get exactly what you want from any coffee shop.
First, if possible, when ordering ask for the size you want in ounces. Try to not use tall, grande and vente unless you are at your local Starbucks. Using such terms will not only sometimes result in an undesirable size but, can also breed a bit of resentment on the part of your non-starbucks barista.
Secondly always ask for what you want, EVEN IF YOU DONT SEE IT ON THE MENU!!!! There are thousands of coffee possibilities and chances are your local coffee shop has the flavors you are looking for. There is not always room on the menu for all the delectable combos that are available.
Third, when ordering your Frappaccino at a non-starbucks establishment, you may want to refer to it as a blended coffee, NOT an iced Mocha. Iced Coffee drinks are very different from blended coffee drinks.
Lastly, let your barista know if you are unsatisfied with your drink. Baristas usually do their very best to get you the best possible drink, however if you find yourself stuck with a drink that is not what you wanted, please give your barista a chance to make you a satisfied customer. Us private coffee shops try very hard to give you exactly what you are used to but we need you to keep us in the know. Please don’t just walk away and waste the money you just spent.
Below are a few translation from Starbucks speak to help you order anywhere:
